More backward, mineral-laced and concentrated, the 2009 Cornas Reynard offers up an incredible, liquid mineral-driven bouquet that includes awesome cassis, ground herbs, violets, tar and crushed stone. This full-bodied effort has brilliant concentration, integrated, yet vibrant acidity and masses of tannin that emerge on the finish. Inky violet color. A heady, seductively perfumed bouquet evokes blackberry, cassis and licorice, with violet and Asian spice topnotes. Broad, palate-staining black and blue fruit and spicecake flavors show outstanding concentration and intense minerality. Clings impressively on the endless finish, which leaves mineral-accented blackberry and candied floral notes behind. I underestimated this remarkable wine last year.- Josh Raynolds (03/2012)
