Aromas of vanilla, licorice, mint and berries follow through to a full-bodied palate, with silky tannins and a vanilla cream and raspberry aftertaste. Very jammy style. But it grows on you. Move over Australia. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best after 2007. 3,500 cases made, 915 cases imported.?-- JS (10/2005)

The 2003 Solengo, a blend of equal parts Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, opens with a huge, brooding nose followed by masses of super-ripe dark fruit, cassis, licorice, earth and black pepper nuances that coat the palate with notable length. Made in an unabashedly rich and concentrated style, it is an excellent effort. Only the imposing tannic structure of the vintage keeps the score from going higher.
